This month’s client spotlight has a bit of a Wisconsin theme running through it. Between our story on the clerk shortage playing out across the state and Jay’s attendance at the Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association conference in Green Bay, it felt like the right time to highlight one of our Wisconsin clients directly: the City of Sun Prairie.
About Sun Prairie
Sun Prairie sits in Dane County and is the most populous suburb of Madison, Wisconsin’s state capital, as part of the greater Madison metropolitan area.
A few things that make it distinctive:
- Rapid growth. Sun Prairie’s population has nearly doubled since 2000, making it one of the fastest-growing communities in the state.
- Jimmy the Groundhog. Sun Prairie calls itself the “Groundhog Capital of the World,” home to Jimmy the Groundhog and an annual Groundhog Day Prognostication in downtown Cannery Square that dates back to 1948 — complete with a friendly, decades-long rivalry with Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
- A Madison-area hub in its own right. Despite its proximity to Madison, Sun Prairie has its own distinct downtown, school district, and business community.
With a population approaching 38,000, Sun Prairie is one of the larger cities in our client base.

Sun Prairie runs on the core OnBoardGOVOnBoardGOV platform, along with the Applications module — an add-on that lets members of the public apply to serve on municipal boards and commissions directly online, rather than through a paper or email-based process. From there, municipal staff can receive, validate, and route each application to the appropriate board for consideration.
Why we’re highlighting Sun Prairie
We work with municipalities across Wisconsin, and Sun Prairie’s a good example of that — a fast-growing city using both the core platform and the Applications module day to day.
